Address book server snow leopard12/31/2023 ![]() Needing to have iTunes deployed on workstations for synch operations would open for use of it for music/podcast downloads as well, the storage location of which needs to be manually fudged about if you don't want it synching along with user's My Documents when using roaming profiles. On top of that they need to provide better feedback to people actually waiting for promised functionality if they aren't going to deliver on it, I'm sure businesses have their push solutions in place already though, but after this will they really want to switch over to their own hosted SLS solution when no guarantee seems to be given from Apple's end, neither on delivery dates or functionality? *Head scratch* indeed My complaint with iTunes is that they store OTHER content in parts of the roaming profile, including iPhone backups - and those get huge too.You would think Microsoft would have stepped in by now, on this whole issue, and designed Windows server to auto-save content in some other "spillover" location any time said content would make a roaming profile exceed a specified maximum allowed size?quote:Originally posted by D Fluke:This sort of thing is exactly why Apple can't be considered a serious contender in the business/corp market. People like to download files to their desktop, and that winds up inflating their roaming profile to HUGE sizes in no time. Otherwise, the first time a user saves a big file in their Documents folder, they're going to run into a 10 minute wait to get logged on/off the next time around! I redirect the users' desktops as well, for the same reason. letting Windows store that as part of a roaming profile itself. For many others, they're content to have it check mail manually, every time they launch the mail client. And as for iTunes on Windows and roaming profiles? I *long* ago realized it was practically a requirement to redirect the "My Documents" folders to a specific path on the server, vs. It seems to me, setting up email fetch on an "every 15 minutes" basis is more than sufficient for people who want to be notified on their phone when they've got new mail coming in. ![]() In each case, when I configured them for push email, they came back in a matter of weeks wanting it turned back off, because it was killing the phone's battery life AND creating huge monthly bills from AT&T detailing all the data connections. ![]() departments don't want to have to go around and manually install Windows on every single new Mac they buy, nor do they want to have to put together separate purchase orders for the Windows licenses. On the flip-side though? Is there REALLY so much demand for email push? We have Exchange at my workplace, and several managers carry iPhones. If you expect large businesses to consider Macs as workstation replacements for Windows PCs, you're going to HAVE to start offering them an option to buy them pre-configured with Windows installed in a Boot Camp partition, or possibly even in a pre-configured VM.) I.T. Apple has never made the moves that'd be required for big business to take them seriously as a contender.
